According to the report by China Chamber of Commerce of Medicine & Health product Importers & Exporters, during recent years, the export of botanical extracts has been growing steadily, which promoted the wide application of new technology, new material and new equipment in the industry, and improved the whole industry onto a new level.

The fast development of global Medicine & Health product market provides a favorable external environment for Chinese botanical extracts industry. In 2006, the total sales of global Medicine & Health product reached 210.4 billion U.S. dollars. In this figure, the nutraceutical supplements, which has close relationship with botanical extracts, had a sales volume of 66.6 billion U.S. dollars. The total export of Chinese botanical extracts was 477 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 46.14% compared with same period of last year. High purity extracts and their derivatives saw the largest growth, with a full year export volume of 299 million U.S. dollars, in increase of 61.52% over the prior year, and taking up 63% of the whole export.

In the mean time, the overall level of Chinese botanical extracts industry has also been noticeably enhanced. Currently, the industry has reached a certain scale. There are more than 200 professional manufacturers in the industry. Many of them have got GMP certification. A lot of new technology and new equipments have been used in the extraction, separation, purification and drying procedures.   

As predicted by some experts, innovative products that have more technology content will dominate the industry. With the development of the industry, China will become more competitive in R&D.
